Here We Go!

So, I play this little guessing game with customers in the makeup store in which I work. I AM the oldest employee there (great, huh?!) When customers complain about Father Time doing a number on their faces, I say that I know what they're talking about. They say, "You can't possibly!" "Oh, but I can!" I say. "I'm older than you think I am!" Then, we try to guess each others' ages. I love playing this game! It's a weird thing we do when we look at others and automatically, often without thinking, try to figure out their age, isn't it? Why do we do that? Why should we even care?! And I don't just do this with mid-lifers! I love asking people when I have my daughter with me, "Guess how old she is? " No one has ever gotten this right! She truly looks 18, even tho she's now a young professional and far beyond her teen years! I can't help but get a kick out of the shock on their faces when I tell them her true age!
If I were to give the first piece of advice to anyone who asked (I hate giving it UNLESS I am asked!) how to stave off the ravages of aging, I would have to say- not to lie out in the freakin' sun!! Yes, I did it back when we didn't know all about SPF and the ozone layer. Coppertone was the be all and end all! The darker we got, the better. But now, we have our sunspots and wrinkles, not to mention skin cancers, to show for it! Why is the tanned look so epitomized in our society anyway? As I once heard a dermatologist say on TV, a tan represents UNhealthy skin, just the opposite of what alot of people think, i.e. "You look so healthy! Did you just get back from vacation somewhere warm?" And if you're like me and it's too late to go back in time, then wear sunscreen every single day! Cloudy, rainy, hail-y, doesn't matter! And not any ol' sunscreen. Make sure it guards against both UVA (aging) rays and UVB (burning) rays. And then have a sunshiny kind of day!! See ya next week! Write me!
