I've Got To Hand It To Ya!

After I published my first entry, I realized I forgot to add something to the last paragraph about sunscreen. Oh, BTW, there WERE supposed to be paragraphs! Did the blog monster gobble up my paragraphing? Dang! He'd better not do that this time!

Anyhoo, most people know that sunscreen is very important to wear on their faces, but I'll bet alot of you don't know that it's just as important to wear it on the backs of your hands, neck and chest area, too! Have you seen women with smooth faces, but wrinkled necks and hands? A dead giveaway to their age! I once had a manicurist tell me to always wear gloves when the temp got below 60 degrees, and by golly, what pearls of wisdom that advice turned out to be! Since my hands and feet get cold below that temp anyway, it hasn't been a problem, but wearing gloves and sunscreen has prevented my getting sunspots or wrinkles. Now, if I could just do something about the veins that pop out! Oh well.......

While we're on the subject of hands, here are a few more pointers from your handy dandy wrinkle wrangler! 1) Wear gloves when doing the dishes (this doesn't apply if you use paper plates!) 2) Wear a moisturizer on your hands at night before bed 3) Be aware of the sun on your hands when in the car! OK, here's how paranoid I am about the sun and my hands. I will position my hand, such as dropping it down by the door, so that it doesn't catch any rays while I'm driving and if I'm a passenger, mainly when on long car trips, I will put something over my hands (if it's too warm for gloves), such as a magazine, paper towel or whatever else happens to be in the car. That sun that comes through the windshield is so powerful and so damaging, it's not even funny! I hope this doesn't sound like high maintenance, because if you do it on a daily basis, it will become second nature and will be SO worth it as you age! Prevention is much easier than curing or treating something AFTER the fact, especially when it comes to health issues.

Wanna hear a funny glove story? My family went to LA (years ago) and I happened to have a pair of gloves accidentally stuffed in the pockets of a jacket I took. LA broke a record while we were there. It snowed! Of course, we weren't prepared! My husband and kids and I all shared this one pair of gloves- one would wear one and someone else would wear the other and then we would switch off! Since then, unless it's summertime, I usually pack a pair of gloves whenever I travel. If I don't use them, fine, but if I need them, hallelujah, I have them! I can't tell you how many pairs I have: animal print, leather, suede, all colors, even one pair has a fake diamond ring on the left ring finger outside- I love those! Got them at an arts and crafts fair. So unique!

So, protect your faces, but don't forget your hands, too. Make up, manicures and plastic surgery have their limits in this area. It's Chanukah now and Christmas soon, so put gloves on your lists of things you want for yourselves or to give to others. It will be the gift that keeps on giving, year after year after year, because you may age, but your hands will never show it!

Until next week........
